Academic Assistant - Outreach Assistant

WHAT IS UPWARD BOUND?

Upward Bound is a pre-college preparatory program designed to provide high school students with:
Academic skills and motivation required for high school graduation and education beyond high school
Orientation to college life
Assistance in applying to college and
Exposure to various cultural, educational and social activities

WHAT IS THE SUMMER COMPONENT?

The Summer Component is an academic residency program that simulates the “college environment.”

DURING THIS TIME PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS:

  • Live on the SAU campus
  • Participate in four academic classes and at least one elective course
  • Assist with “STEM-Related” Activities
  • Participate in group teamwork sessions
  • Attend cultural programs and visit other college campuses, and
  • As a reward for continued program involvement students may be involved in a cultural trip during the last week of the summer session

Applicants are encouraged to be at least a rising college Sophomore or a graduate level student; have at least a 2.7 GPA; have the ability to tutor academic subjects (Algebra, Geometry, English, Biology, Chemistry); be able to relate well to high school students and stay in the residence hall (UB pays for lodging & cafeteria meals)
